Hi there! My name is Jack, and this is my portfolio!

I'm a programmer who is just starting out in the world of games programming but I like to push myself in order to learn new skills and hone the skills I already have.

Growing up in a large family who all, or almost all, played video games allowed me to experience games from a large number of generations despite not having been around when they first existed. I have fond memories of playing games with my brothers on the SNES and N64.

I've always had a passion and knack for creating things on computers. When I was younger these were PowerPoint animations and stories.  One of my first purchases on Steam in 2016 was RPG Maker VX Ace and I have put over 400 hours into it, creating things and allowing my creativity to flow. This was the first time I realised that I might be able to make the things I enjoyed playing so much. After this I pursued Computer Science courses at both GCSE and A-Level, giving me more confidence in my programming abilities.

In 2019, I started Games Programming at the University of Northampton. While at first I was inexperienced and completely overwhelmed, over the past few years I've been able to watch myself grow and improve with every piece I create. I've become partial to the Unity Engine, it being my engine of choice however I've been able to learn Java, C and C++ along side Unity's native C# thanks to the modules on my course.

I'm on track finish my degree with a First and hope to use the knowledge I've gained alongside my creative mind to create experiences that might one day cause someone else to have the same realisations I had while I was still deciding what career I wanted to pursue.

Beyond playing games and making them, I also enjoy building wooden models and flexing my creative muscles with other outlets such as playing the guitar or drawing. While i'm not particularly good at either of those things, I enjoy them all the same and have seen myself improve similarly to how my programming has improved over the years.

I'm looking for entry or junior level games programming positions so I can gain more experience while providing my skillset to a team of other developers in order to create real experiences for the public. I'm partial to Gameplay and AI programming but have knowledge in UI/UX programming too.
